SUMMARY:BOULDER TRAGER WEEKEND: Mentastics Day & Supervised Practice Day
DESCRIPTION:Mentastics: Somatic Movement Explorations to Potentiate Touch\nFocusing on the power of softness\, support of weight\, and the presence of waves\, we’ll expand our inner and outer landscape\, learn to live and work pain free\, and inspire and assist our clients. The morning focuses on principles of natural human movement that enhances the sense of freedom\, softness\, ease\, groundedness\, and connection. The afternoon invites you to deepen your personal practice while connecting more meaningfully with others\, both on and off the table. \nWhat are Mentastics\nMeaningful movement practices for self-care\, self-development\, and for our work with clients. Dr. Trager coined the word “Mentastics” as a contraction of “mental” and “gymnastics”. The term refers to a whole field of practices that grow out of the fertile soil of sensory presence and mindful movement. Mentastics are a process of movement exploration and mind/body development characterized by an open\, curious state of mind and used to explore and integrate lighter\, freer\, more peaceful ways of being. Sessions include individualized\, mindful\, somatic movement practices called Mentastics®. These support on-going well being\, enhance the benefits of Trager Sessions and teach clients how to integrate the principles into their daily life. \n  \n\n\n\nSupervised Practice Day\nWe will use Saturday’s Mentastics skills at the table\, integrating the somatic principles into our Level 1 curriculum for greater impact and ease for giver and receiver. Learn applications for supine\, prone\, and for all areas of the body: neck\, back\, shoulders\, abdomen\, chest and legs. Designed for Trager students\, Level 1 or above. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor: Roger Tolle RSMT\, CTP\, Trager Practitioner since 1985\, teaches throughout the US and Europe. His background includes a B.A. in Theater and Movement\, fifteen years as a professional dancer\, extensive study with Dr. Milton Trager\, Continuum\, Body Mind Centering\, Gyrotonics\, and Yoga. \n“My particular fascination at this time is in using the time I spend with my client in Mentastics as a time to enhance my own personal growth…as a spiritual practice\, even. By pausing repeatedly to return to simple presence with nothing added\, a state Dr. Trager referred to as Hook-up\, I may continually cleanse my mind of worry\, attachment and striving\, and rid my body of tension and fatigue. As an added benefit\, my pauses also serve my clients’ need for the time and space necessary to integrate their new feeling experiences.” \n—Roger Tolle \n\n\n\n\nMilton Trager\, MD\, who became aware of the basic principles at the age of 18\, spent over 50 years refining this unique approach to somatic movement therapy and bodywork. \nWhat is Trager®? Trager is a unique\, neuromuscular approach to bodywork and movement re-patterning. Friends and family welcome. \n  \n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor: Gwen Crowell\n was introduced to the work of Dr. Milton Trager when she went to massage school in Berkeley. She worked with Dr. Trager from 1978 until his passing in 1997. Attracted by the joyful movement and ease of the work\, Gwen was delighted to share Trager® first with clients and then with students beginning in 1985 when Dr. Trager selected her as one of his instructors. \nGwen was a pioneer in bringing Trager to Washington and has maintained a private practice since 1979.  Gwen has been a guest lecturer at Bastyr University and teaches Trager certification classes throughout North America\, Europe\, and Japan. She enjoys participating in the creative process of Trager and witnessing clients and students transform through the power of touch. \n\n  \n\n\n\nMilton Trager\, MD\, who became aware of the basic principles at the age of 18\, spent over 50 years refining this unique approach to somatic movement therapy and bodywork. \nWhat is Trager®? Trager is a unique\, neuromuscular approach to bodywork and movement re-patterning. The tablework consists of deep\, fluid rocking movements (oscillations) of muscles and joints combined with compression and gentle traction. This feeds into the nervous system resulting in dramatic muscular relaxation\, along with feelings of lightness\, freedom\, and flexibility. The client is also shown simple exercises called mentastics which help integrate the profound changes in the body. \n

SUMMARY:Restoring Poly-vagal Harmony and Core Muscular Integration Utilizing the Trager® Approach - Seattle - Jan 22nd
DESCRIPTION:Leverage Dr. Milton Trager’s seminal approach to touch and movement as a language and learn potent\, proven\, and most importantly\, trauma-informed\, non-invasive methods for reaching the unconscious mind and dissolving some of the deepest effects of held trauma\, those impacting the vagus nerve system. \nUsing the body as a handle to reach the mind for this dialogue and to establish a state of peace and safety\, we’ll utilize a combination of compassionate\, mindful attention\, oscillatory mobilizations\, and informed positional releases to address and integrate the implicated skeletal muscle groups associated with the fight\, fight or freeze response—those including trapezius\, diaphragm\, and psoas. \nOn the shoulders of your own well developed skills and coupled with a mindful presence\, these concepts will enhance your capacity to restore tone to the Ventral Vagal System through the Neck/Shoulders/Rib cage of your clients to potentiate deep and positive interoception and social connection. And the down regulation of the Dorsal Vagal Response through the diaphragm\, abdomen and psoas/QL\, will help to restore visceral harmony. You’ll also learn how to empower your clients to further the neuromuscular gains from this protocol to ensure lasting change through simple Trager® Mentastics: mindful somatic exercises. \nProper balance of vagus nerve response is essential for optimum health and well-being. The longest nerve in the human body\, the vagus nerve originates in the brain stem and extends into the chest and abdomen. Carrying both motor and sensory information\, it supplies innervation to the heart\, major blood vessels\, airways\, lungs\, esophagus\, stomach\, and intestines. \nIn addition\, the vagus nerve stimulates the secretion of acetylcholine within the central nervous system. Acetylcholine plays a role in motivation\, arousal\, attention\, learning\, memory including muscle memory\, and REM sleep. This feeds into the nervous system resulting in dramatic muscular relaxation\, along with feelings of lightness\, freedom\, and flexibility. The client is also shown simple exercises called mentastics which help integrate the profound changes in the body. \nSessions include individualized\, mindful\, somatic movement practices called Mentastics®. These support on-going well being\, enhance the benefits of Trager Sessions and teach clients how to integrate the principles into their daily life. \nMilton Trager\, MD\, who became aware of the basic principles at the age of 18\, spent over 50 years refining this unique approach to somatic movement therapy and bodywork. \nTrager® stands alone as an approach\, but also beautifully complements and deepens other styles of massage as well. Come and learn the language of the neuromuscular system\, and turn the temporary release of tension into an ongoing dissolution of muscular tension patterns.
